Warner Bros. builds a hybrid LEGO film

When it comes to the world of animation, Lego is no n00b. The world famous building block toy has had a number of animated segments, whether its commercials for their products like Lego Ben 10, rendered cut scenes in video games like Lego Batman, or short-form animated films like the Lego Star Wars adventure starring R2-D2, or even their own productions like The Adventures of Clutch Powers. Now, Warner Bros. Pictures has signed with Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the folks behind Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, to bring the Lego movie to the big screen. The hybrid mix of live-action and CG animation film is still without a storyline or theater date, but we’ll be sure to …build details soon!

NFL brings Rush Zone: Guardians of the Core to Nick

It’s not often that you see a partnership between the National Football League and a cartoon producing powerhouse like Nickelodeon teaming up on a project, so when they do, you know it’s going to be special! In this case, we have a brand new animated short-form series that the NFL will bring to Nicktoons called Rush Zone: Guardians of the Core. The toon stars Ishmael, your average 10 year old boy, with some not-so-average abilities and responsibilities — he is tasked with protective the various NFL stadiums, which house the powerful flow of positive life energy — all from the grasp of the villainous Sudden Death. Many players and coaches will be stopping by on occasion to help out, including Eli Manning and Sean Payton, amongst others. The series Kick Off (literally!) is this September, leading to a 1-hour movie finale the day before Super Bowl XLV, Saturday, February 5th.

The Last Airbender brings Avatar to theaters this Thursday

Getting excited? Do you feel it in the air? Bent or otherwise? Well you’d better be! In just a matter of days, Nickelodeon Movies is bringing the hit Nick-based anime series Avatar to the big screen as The Last Airbender. The M. Night Shyamalan production, originally set to hit on July 2nd, is arriving a whole 24 hours earlier, much to the delight of fans everywhere. And, of course, the adventure will be presented in three of the best dimensions you could imagine. With tickets already on sale, its possible some of you already have plans to see the film this Thursday — I know I do!

The Peanuts crew may now be worth $175 million (thanks to United Media) but the group of Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Woodstock, and more aren’t just resting back! With summer in full swing, the Peanuts Gang are back at it with a new baseball themed special: Lucy Must Be Traded, Charlie Brown. The episode reaches the ABC network on Wednesday, July 14th, at 8pm. Created by Charles M. Schulz, the characters started life in comic strips before moving to regular seasonal appearances on ABC, all featuring original music by Vince Guaraldi and David Benoit. After a whopping 900 losses, baseball team manager Charlie Brown will do anything for a win. The opportunity to trade Lucy might be his lucky ticket… but can new player Marcie finally lead the team to victory?

Warner Bros. offers a sneak peek of Batman: Under the Red Hood

On July 27th, the DC Comics Universe will expand to video once again, as Warner Bros. debuts the animated film Batman: Under the Red Hood. Produced by Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League vet Bruce Timm, the film depicts Batman going toe-to-toe against his former sidekick, Jason Todd, the second Robin. Starring the voice talents of Bruce Greenwood, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jensen Ackles, the direct-to-DVD disc joins a long line of successful Warner Premier efforts, like Wonder Woman and Green Lantern: First Flight. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait another full month to get a look at the animated style, as DC has ushered out a sneak peek clip. Check it out!

DreamWorks Animation goes from Shrek to Trolls

For nearly ten years now, DreamWorks Animation has been known as the home to the ogre-based Shrek franchise. So, would it surprise you all that much to hear that the CG movie making giant could perhaps be tackling another folklore type mythological character; trolls? The animation studio has revealed plans to create just such a CG film, with the big hair good luck Troll Dolls as the main characters. The toy line, owned by Dam Things, has signed on with DreamWorks to give the characters a good home, with Dannie Festa at the helm. We’ve seen the Smurfs walk and talk – would you be freaked out to see these green, yellow, and pink-haired guys running around?

As of this week, folks with certain satellite navigation systems in their car can have their directions provided to them by some of Nickelodeon’s favorite icons! TomTom and Garmin GPS Systems have joined in, offering the voices of SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer as their guides. Through these animated heroes, you can not only get to and from your friends houses, you can also stop by restaurants, hotels, parks, and more. Just be sure you don’t head under the sea

Tiny Planets is amongst the United Kingdom’s more unique animated creations. The 5-minute episodes are perfect to grasp those with short attention spans; and with more than 65 in the archives, those with longer attention spans can string whole series together. The toon follows Bing and Bong on their adventures in the Tiny Universe, on an icy planet. Using a fluffy white sofa, the pair catapult across the solar system, exploring the various scientific mysteries: light, color, sound, etc. The CG cartoon, produced by Pepper’s Ghost Productions, Ltd, has appeared in the US on Sesame Workshop, Nickelodeon, and Noggin. With the current 3D craze catching on all over the place, we’re seeing more and more projects developed for success in all three dimensions; from Toy Story 3’s record-setting opening weekend to the launch of the eagerly anticipated Nintendo 3DS. Jumping on the bandwagon, France Television has signed a few deals to bring 3D animated programs it’s way. Included in the mix are Method Animation and DQ Entertainment’s Charlot and Peter Pan, and Loopdidoo’s Zany Christmas, based on Alexis Nesme’s comic book Grabouillon.
