This year, SEGA ensures Sonic is more treat than trick

This year, SEGA ensures Sonic is more treat than trick

Halloween is infamous for bringing out devilish, frightening, and incredibly scary characters to our immediate attention. Most of the time, that’s a great thing. However, for what feels like the bast brajillion years, we’ve gotten a terrifying version of one of our more beloved favorites, without ever asking for or wanting it. The target? Sonic the Hedgehog. While the Sonic X toon lives on, the days of awesome Sonic video games feels like it has drifted to the distant past. Year after year, fans are excited for, then disappointed with, the latest SEGA has to offer. That is, until this year. A few weeks back, we got Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I – Sonic’s return to 2D glory. Now, coming up, we’re promised two more gems with Sonic Free Riders on November 4th and Sonic Colors on November 16th. With all these release dates circling the Halloween holiday, we can only hope its more of a treat than a trick!

DreamWorks and NBC replay Scared Shrekless October 30

If any of you guys missed it on Thursday (or for those of you who saw and loved it, like us) NBC and DreamWorks are replaying the Halloween-themed Shrek holiday special tonight, Scared Shrekless. The network originally aired the 30 minute episode on Thursday, but brought it back due to popular demand (and horrifying relativity!) for the Halloween weekend. Halloween is Shrek’s favorite holiday – and this year, he’s planning a night of frights, ogre-style. Instead of the usual tricks or treats, Shrek ups the ante and challenges Fiona, Donkey, Puss in Boots, and the other fairy tale characters to spend the night in Lord Farquaad’s haunted castle telling scary stories. One by one, they compete through the night, putting their own fairytale spin on infamous spine-tingling tales that everyone knows and loves! The last one to be scared Shrekless wins. In the tradition of Shrek the Halls, Scared Shrekless is a half-hour animated special delivering holiday fun for the whole family. TOON in tonight, October 30th, at 8pm!

Disney and Pixar present Toy Story 3 concept art

Disney and Pixar present Toy Story 3 concept art

Looks… familiar? I mean, close, but not really? You can sorta see Andy and Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, Rex, Bullseye, Hamm, and a few others from Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story franchise, but the detail is certainly much less CG than we’re used to. That’s because this is the concept art phase of the film’s development. Months after the hand-drawn sketches take us through the basics of the story, individual scenes are fleshed out with color in these rendered paintings, giving all of the digital artists a proper sense of what to create. The lighting, the mood, the frame cropping, etc. And guess what; there’s tons of this content, all happily packed in the Blu-ray and DVD combo packs, due in stores November 2nd. Check out some more!

And if there’s one holiday that Monsters, Aliens, and Mutants would love to join in on, it’s Halloween. The 30 minute show airs immediately after the Scared Shrekless replay, starting at 8pm, and all of it is on NBC.

Hit Entertainment and Nelvana Studio introduce Mike the Knight

When Alexander Bar realized there wasn’t enough animated attention being paid to castles, dragons, magic, and the whole world of adventures, he came up with the perfect solution: Mike the Knight. Bringing the concept to Hit Entertainment, who later joined forces with Nelvana Studio, have helped bring the idea to life, as they proudly develop the CG animated series. The toon is set in the land of Glendragon, following the tales of the heroic knight, who must deal with dragons and princesses and regular medieval life through the eyes of a kid. Treehouse has already signed on to air the show next year, with CBeebies soon to follow. Check out some renders and the full press release

Thankfully, Amberwood Entertainment and One Animation are working together to create all new episodes of the animated series.
