Harry Potter tops Rapunzel’s Tangled at the box office

Harry Potter tops Rapunzel's Tangled at the box office

Wizards and princesses topped the list this weekend at the box office, as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows narrowly beat out Tangled for the number one spot. Harry’s adventure was in the second week, forging another strong tally after bringing in a whopping $125 million during last week’s debut. And though the top spot was taken, Disney’s latest Princess adventure made a very strong showing, just barely losing out to the Harry Potter juggernaut. Rapunzel’s tale (tail??) wasn’t alone in the rankings for CG toons, either, with DreamWorks’ Megamind in third place – a distant third, but still pretty good for it’s fourth week, bringing the total to over $130 million. Take a look at the full box office ranking, and let us know what you were watching this week!

Werewolves, vampires, monsters, creatures, mummys, … what’s missing there, ghosts? Maybe the Abominable Snowman? Or is that covered under “monster”. It’s all so confusing, and maybe a little bit frightening, but one thing is for certain about Scary Larry – it’s awesome. The upcoming flash animated series (a co-production between Timoon Animation, Mercury Filmworks, 1492 Pictures, and Lagardere Entertainment) features a “rat pack” of iconic monster kids who travel and rock together in a band they named Frightsylvania. Individually, they are Larry the werewolf, Victoria the vampire, Frank the monster, Mummy the mummy, and Carl the sea creature – each just trying to live as normal an existence as a freaky monster can live!

Nickelodeon UK has Beyblade Metal Fusion fever

Nickelodeon UK has Beyblade Metal Fusion fever

Since it debuted in the UK on August 7th, Beyblade Metal Fusion has not only fully taken over Nickelodeon, it’s also given every single Nick watcher a severe case of Beyblade fever! The anime toon is a spin off of the original series by Tatsunoko Pro, Synergy SP, and Nelvana, featuring an entirely new set of characters in a new storyline. Beyblade: Metal Fusion uses Universal Constellations as the specific motifs – each with a unique meaning and form. The series brings an inspiration from the printed manga, though helps to focus on the physical portions of the property – namely the video games and the toys. Many recess periods are completely dominated by Beybladers battling it out on the school ground; we know we’ve been there for a few! How about you?

Firebreather heating up Cartoon Network’s November 24th

Firebreather heating up Cartoon Network's November 24th

If you’re a loyal toon fan like us, you probably have already heard that Cartoon Network is debuting a CG made-for-TV movie in the next few days called Firebreather, the story of a half human, half dragon teenager, caught in the middle of a war between the human race and the monstrous Kaiju. What you might not have been aware of is that the animated film is actually based on a comic book title created about 7 years ago by Image Comics’ Andy Kuhn and Phil Hestor. The pair created the story about a high schooler named Duncan Rosenblatt, who is the son of a regular soccer mom and an irregular 300 foot tall firebreathing dragon. That not only leaves Duncan in a weird spot every weekend when he decides whom to visit, but once his abilities to breathe fire and super strength come into play, everything becomes a bit more awkward. Take a look at some renders for the upcoming toon, then be sure to check it out November 24th!
