Noting the partnership’s success with The Penguins of Madagascar, Nickelodeon has big plans for the series, and has already crafted 52 episodes. Pokemon Black and White captures sales for Nintendo DS

Pokemon Black and White captures sales for Nintendo DS

Pokemon has been around for a long time now – we’re at over 10 years, and counting. Thus, it’s perfectly reasonable to think that, just maybe, the franchise and phenomena just aren’t as popular as they used to be. Sure, you can think that if you want. But you’d be wrong. How do we know? Well, not only are the ratings for Cartoon Network’s Pokemon: Black & White series sky high, but the recently-released Nintendo DS video games are selling through the roof — already to the tune of over 2 million games sold in the U.S. (over 1 million copies in the first 24 hours) since launching two weeks ago. That’s in addition to the 5 million copies of Pokemon Black and Pokemon White that have sold in Japan. In addition to the games ToonBarn gaveaway a few weeks back, it seems like Nintendo is doing quite alright with Pokemon!

The series revolves around Ribert and Robert, his human friend, as they learn about different topics in Wonderland, a magical island amusement park. Nick's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ready for new direction

A few, new scattered details on the upcoming TMNT series are working their way from the sewer, through the manhole, and into the street. Nickelodeon’s new take on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles features Ciro Nieli, Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia at the helm, guiding the CG toon as executive producers, and breathing new life into the band of reptile brothers. The group promises the Turtles to be “funnier” and “ninja-ier” than ever before, as if everything you’ve known in each of the previous cartoon series will be kicked up a notch. A quick teaser render of Michelangelo shows that Team Green is ready for business. What’s your take?

4Kids and Yu-Gi-Oh end relationship in lawsuit

4Kids and Yu-Gi-Oh end relationship in lawsuit

BREAKING NEWS The buzz ’round the intrawebs is that 4Kids Entertainment is no longer very chummy with the Yu-Gi-Oh! brand. For years, the company has been the home for the animated series, all the spin-offs, the movie, and all of the products and figures of the franchise, including the trading card game. However, now, the anime studio that originally created the hit in Japan claims 4Kids hasn’t given them their share. Apparently, TV Tokyo Corporation and Nihon Ad Systems allege 4Kids made secret deals with Cartoon Network, Funimation Productions, Majesco and other entities (for TV, products, and home distribution) to cheat the Japanese companies out of millions. Now, they’re looking for payback, taking the battle to the courts via a lawsuit. More immediately, they’ve terminated all licensing agreements with 4Kids, effectively pulling all relating shows from the air. What this means for the future of some of our favorite toons, we’ll just have to wait and see. Stay TOONed right here, for more updates as this develops.

Transformers: Rescue Bots roll out on The Hub

Transformers: Rescue Bots roll out on The Hub

Back in October, The Hub (a collaboration between Discovery and Hasbro) brought an entirely new era to the Transformers franchise with Transformers Prime. The CG look and classic voice actors helped merge the iconic retro feel of the 1980s toon with the modern animated take in the films. Now, The Hub is rolling out a second Transformers toon in the brand, Transformers: Rescue Bots. Inspired by Hasbro’s brand, the show features a group of Autobots, too young to work alongside Optimus Prime and protect humanity with his group. Instead, they team with a human family of first responders to achieve their just-as-lofty goals. With a focus on teamwork and heroism, this new series is a perfect compliment to the original toon. Look for it later this year, on The Hub.

Throw in a horse, a chameleon, and a number of tough thugs, and you have yourself Disney’s Tangled; a complete re-imagining of the classic Grimm Brothers fairy tale, in a gorgeous modern CG – and now available (as of March 29th) on Blu-ray, DVD, and Disney Blu-ray 3D!
