Sony preps Men in Black 3 for theaters, MIB: The Series to follow?

Sony preps Men in Black 3 for theaters, MIB: The Series to follow?

Sony Pictures is now deep into the production of the latest film in the Men in Black franchise, MiB3, aka Men in Black 3. The film will reunite Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as the famous agents, ready to protect earth against intergalactic criminals. Currently, Sony is penning a deal with Jakks Pacific to unveil a new line of toys and action figures around the 3D film, which hits theaters May 25, 2012. However, of key interest to us is the potential revival of the Men in Black animated series (MIB: The Series) which ran on Warner Bros.’ KidsWB programming block back in the late 1990s. Now that Agent K and Agent J will be icons on the big screen once more, can we count on any of our animation homes to bring us some aliens…?

Voltron Force: Flash Form Go! Review

Voltron force: Flash Form Go!

I’d like to start this week’s review by saying you can thank my son for last Thursday’s Episode (Voltron Force: Episode 8: FlashForm Go!). Obviously, he didn’t write it. And he didn’t do any of the animation… or the voices…or the music…or…you get the picture. But the idea for it came from him and thousands of other Voltron fans out there (including me:from old Voltron), who have all been wondering the same thing. Since it seems to take awhile for Voltron to form the 5 lions into one large hero, what would happen if they were attacked by an enemy in the middle of putting Voltron together? This episode answers that and it also puts this series on the next level. We’ll talk about what this means for Voltron fans, from the old series to the new one, after we see what happened to the Voltron Force and the inhabitants of the Planet Arus on a typical day on the farm.

Ben 10: Destroy All Aliens brings CG Ben 10 to Cartoon Network

Ben 10: Destroy All Aliens brings CG Ben 10 to Cartoon Network

During the heydays of this year’s Comic-Con 2011, we scoured a lot of great info about the upcoming world of animation. Amongst the biggest revelations was Cartoon Network’s latest Ben 10 adventure; Ben 10: Destroy All Aliens, an entirely CG rendered made for TV movie. Still somewhat early in development, the CN promises this computer animated cartoon will be ready for our TV-watching enjoyment next year. Perhaps most surprising, and maybe even a little exciting, is the decision to go before Ben 10: Ultimate Alien and Ben 10: Alien Force, and create a “prequel” of sorts during the original Ben 10 era; Ben, Gwen, and Grandpa Max solving cases with the original Omnitrix, just like the old days — and complete with all the original voice cast! Check out these teaser screen shots of the project in motion.

Comic-Con checks Cartoon Network’s Green Lantern Animated Series

Comic-Con checks Cartoon Network's Green Lantern Animated Series

First, Batman: The Animated Series introduced the modern super hero cartoon. Warner Bros. later followed with Superman, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited. Countless others were mixed in, as well, from Teen Titans to Young Justice, but the Bruce Timm-inspired designs were always viewed as the core of the lot. …and that lot is expanding! Fans will soon get to enjoy Green Lantern: The Animated Series, as the DC Comics super hero is set to debut on Cartoon Network. But rather than wait all those additional months, Comic-Con 2011 helped usher in a sneak peek of the CG animated toon, following the Green Lantern Corps and Hal Jordan in all of their ring-slinging adventures. DreamWorks Animation to bring Shreks, Dragons, and Pandas to Netflix?

DreamWorks Animation to bring Shreks, Dragons, and Pandas to Netflix?

In a major mingling of the entertainment brands, DreamWorks Animation and Netflix are working on a deal that would give Netflix the exclusive streaming rights to every movie from the DreamWorks studio. Currently, that deal is in place between DreamWorks and HBO, but Netflix could take over for HBO, and the foreseeable future – and soon! That would mean every Shrek, every How to Train Your Dragon, Kung-Fu Panda, Puss in Boots, Megamind, Madagascar, Monsters vs. Aliens, and all titles we don’t even know about yet (Bee movie 2??). Time to queue some flicks up, and get to streaming!

Jake and the Never Land Pirates 2nd season plans for Disney Junior

Disney Junior is just coming off an incredibly successful run on the first season of Jake and the Never Land Pirates. The new series that takes place in the Never Land world made famous by Peter Pan follows Jake and his crew, who live to adventure and challenge the might of Captain Hook and his pal Smee. With all of the new ground the Disney toon broke, they’re not just resting on major accomplishments, but promising big things for the second season, set to kick off in 2012. Sharon Osbourne and Jane Kaczmarek are just two special guest voices, starring as Captain Hook’s mother and Red Jessica, respectively – and they’re not alone! Also be sure to listen for David Arquette, Tori Spelling, Lisa Loeb, Adam West, and Ariel Winter, amongst others.

Hey Arnold heads to DVD from Nickelodeon and Shout Factory

Hey Arnold heads to DVD from Nickelodeon and Shout Factory

Arnold, the star of the Hey Arnold animated series, lives with his grandparents, Phil and Gertrude, owners of a boarding house called Sunset Arms. He heads to 4th grade in the morning, and if he’s not getting into trouble there with pals, schoolmates, or bullies, he waits until he’s home to do so. More often than not, Arnold’s problems all start with Helga, his personal female bully, who hides the fact that she’s totally in love with him. That is, she crushes on him so he doesn’t suspect she crushes on him. Trust us, it makes perfect sense. Want to see for yourself? Well, then you’re in luck! On August 9th, Nickelodeon is teaming with Shout! Factory to bring this entire universe home in the DVD box set Hey Arnold! Season One. All 20 episodes from the first season will make their way to the collection, just waiting for you to relive it. Check out the full press release for more details.
