PGS Buys Alvin and the Chipmunks Rights
According to a recent report by Kidscreen.com, PGS Entertainment has acquired the worldwide broadcast rights (excluding France and the US) to the upcoming 52 x 11 minute Alvin and the Chipmunks TV series. The new TV series based on the trio of musically-talented chipmunks will be CG animated and will be launched at this fall’s MIPCOM, with the TV premiere slated for early 2015. The series marks the Chipmunks’ return to the small screens after 20 years in hiatus.
As for demand, the recent success of the three Alvin and the Chipmunks films, 2007′s Alvin and The Chipmunks from Fox, Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Alvin and The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, shows that a new generation of fans is enamored of the all-singing, all-dancing trio, with the films grossing nearly $2 billion to date, further bolstered by an equally successful line of merchandise based on the CG films.
