Wellesley Wild heads up new Animaniacs
When Hulu announced two new seasons of Animaniacs, their lips were mostly sealed when it came to the staff behind the laughs. Now the showrunner has been revealed: Wellesley Wild. The name might not be immediately recognizable to you, but he’s a veteran of Seth MacFarlane’s projects like Family Guy, Ted and The Orville. Alongside MacFarlane and fellow Ted writer Alec Sulkin, the trio helped create Fox’s Dads live-action sitcom.
Steven Spielberg will executive produce alongside Warner Bros. Animation president Sam Register, Amblin Television co-presidents Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. The show’s voice cast has yet to be publicly announced.
Animaniacs originally debuted on FOX Kids in 1993 before moving to KidsWB in 1995. The show’s 99th, then final, episode aired on November 14, 1998. The series was a critical darling, picking up 8 Daytime Emmy Awards and a Peabody. A reboot of the series was initially rumored to be in development last spring. The original series was created by Tom Ruegger. The first batch of the two new seasons will debut in 2020.
