Nightwish’s Tuomas Holopainen Dedicates Solo Album to Scrooge McDuck

life and times of scrooge mcduck

I may not know squat about metal, but I do know the awesomeness that is Scrooge McDuck, and the crazy old duck is getting his own tribute album later this month. Finnish Nightwish keyboardist/songwriter Tuomas Holopainen is releasing a solo album entitled Music Inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge.

The artwork for the album is provided by none other than Don Rosa, the man behind the graphic novel that inspired this project.

The track list is as follows:

Want to hear something truly, truly, truly outrageous? Jem is back – in film form!

It was recently announced that a live-action film is in the works for this treasured ’80s franchise. However, unlike many Hollywood endeavors, the creators wish for fans to contribute. Whether a person wants to submit designs for costumes or vie for a spot on the cast, they can do so by visiting the movie’s official Tumblr page. “It’s sort of like Kickstarter,” said director Jon M. Chu. “But rather than asking for money, we’re asking for your creativity.”

Who can deny the unique experience that comes with reading the funny pages? The ink that marks your fingers, the delicate texture of the paper. Though many of us will always hold a spot in our hearts for newspaper comics, the landscape is changing. More and more people choose to read webcomics such as Penny Arcade and xkcd. Is this a good thing, or is it time to panic and lament? Stripped sets out to answer this question – or at least explore it – by interviewing over 70 big-name artists in the printed and digital comic industry.

‘Cinderella at the Emerald Castle’ Coming To iTunes

I like to think of myself as an ardent observer of cartoons, including the Disney clones sitting in the $5 bin at Walmart – however, some things do slip under my radar and catch me by surprise. While partaking in my usual search for cheesy films on iTunes – yes, I really do this – I came across Cinderella at the Emerald Castle: An Animated Classic. I discovered that it’s owned by an Italian company called Mondo TV. The studio behind the creation of this movie goes by PlumTum. Tatsunoko Productions co-produced it, which would explain the anime style artwork.

Here is what the iTunes page says about the movie:

Tex Avery Receives Official Day in Texas

Though he died in 1980, Tex Avery carries a legacy that is difficult to dispute. Even if you don’t know whom he is, he’s inspired the cartoons you know and love in some fashion. From Tiny Toon Adventures to Spongebob Squarepants to Ren & Stimpy, the pool is wide and deep. I know him best from the Red Hot Riding Hood short, albeit vaguely from early Saturday morning TV sessions.

The people of his hometown of Taylor, Texas have marked February 22, 2014, as Tex Avery Day on the calendar.
