Disney offers a sneak peek at Tron: Uprising

Disney offers a sneak peek at Tron: Uprising

It’s been nearly three months since Tron Legacy hit theaters, racking up over $170 million dollars in the U.S. box office in that span. The sequel to 1982’s Tron, the film was a major success for Disney – so much so that the House of Mouse is not quite ready to move on from the futuristic themes! Just this week, Walt Disney Entertainment and Disney XD teamed to premiere a teaser trailer for a new upcoming animated series called Tron: Uprising, whose timeline fits somewhere between Tron and Tron: Legacy. To properly kick off the toon, Disney XD will feature a 10-part micro-series this fall, readying audiences worldwide. The toon stars Beck, whose mission is to free his friends from the likes of Clu and General Tesler; not an easy task, leading a revolution in The Grid as just a young program! But he’s not alone in his quest – in fact, he’s being trained by Tron, himself – adopting Tron’s persona as Tesler’s archenemy. Check it out!

Batman: Knightfall fan animation

Batman: Knightfall fan animation

Not too long ago, we got a special look at a Superman fan animation, Superman Classic. The ToonBarn office was so overjoyed by the fan-production, we started to scout around the ole Youtube for additional fan creations, looking to see what we could stumble upon. Almost immediately, we turned up Batman: Knightfall, another home-grown product about a hero from the DC Universe. This time, Youtube user afterlife2k created a trailer of the entire 3-arc story from DC Comics about Bruce Wayne losing a battle to Bane, Azrael taking over for Batman, and Bruce Wayne coming back to reclaim the mantle. Take a look at the trailer, and even the behind-the-scenes story!

Nickelodeon brings Rango to theaters

Nickelodeon brings Rango to theaters

In three weeks time, we’ll be Rango-ing about the ToonBarn offices, preparing ourselves for the Nickelodeon and Paramount film set to hit theaters on March 4th. Starring Johnny Depp, Rango tells the story of a former-pet chameleon who hits the old west styled town of Dirt to become the sheriff. Unfortunately, the town has a long history of bad things happening to the lawmen. Industrial Light & Magic is heavily involved in the film, which marks the first time in over 35 years the famous studio (known for work on the Star Wars flicks) has been involved with an animated movie. Perhaps Rango has the Force!

Gnomeo & Juliet: What’s In a Gnome Featurette

Gnomeo and Juliet What's In a Gnome Featurette

Much like Romeo and Juliet, Gnomeo and Juliet are two characters sharing a forbidden love — except theirs is much less historical and much more …gardeny. But regardless of their CG animated form, the basics of William Shakespeare’s play remains true, with Gnomeo and Juliet looking for everlasting happiness in the middle of their families’ feud. Rocket Pictures, Starz Animation, and Touchstone Pictures are readying their 3D film for theaters tomorrow, February 9th, just in time for the Valentine’s Day holiday. Take a look at the latest featurette, “What’s in a Gnome”

Move over, Ryan Reynolds! There’s a new ring slinger in the DC Universe – at least the animated one. To couple the hype for DC Comics’ upcoming live-action Green Lantern film, Warner Bros. Animation is releasing a special collection of animated GL segments on DVD June 7th, called Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. Nathan Fillion will provide the voice of Hal Jordan, whose quest is to train Arisia, a new recruit, voiced by Elizabeth Moss. Just like when Warner Premiere brought Batman: Gotham Knights to the small screen as it’s big brother brought the Dark Knight to the big screen, Warner is hoping to spark some added green interest in the character with this new DVD and Blu-ray title. Will this just be the beginning of the Lantern Corps? We’ll just have to wait and see

DreamWorks adds Frances McDormand to Madagascar 3

DreamWorks adds Frances McDormand to Madagascar 3

In 2005, DreamWorks Animation brought Madagascar to the world. The sequel, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, hit a few years later in 2008. Sure, there’s been an awesome animated series, The Penguins of Madagascar, but if my math is correct, and it almost never is, we’re due for the third piece in the theatrical trilogy. Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks CEO, agrees, confirming that a third film (and possibly an eventually fourth!) is on the way. Madagascar 3 is underway, ready for theaters on May 18th, 2012. The general plot will revolve around Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman still trying to get home, working their way through Europe’s traveling circus along with King Julien, Maurice, Mort, and the Penguins, amongst others (like a sea lion, a jaguar, a tiger, and more!). Frances McDormand will do her best to stand between the friends and success, starring as the villainous animal control officer. You ready to dance?
