Interview: Kung Fu Panda and Legend of Korra’s The Track Team
The Examiner’s Mark Morton recently sat with the people behind Kung Fu Panda and Avatar: The Legend of Korra’s musical scores; Jeremy Zuckerman and Benjamin Wynn, collectively known as The Track Team. The interview is very timely, since The Legend of Korra has just premiered on Nickelodeon, and many new fans are just now getting to hear the Track Team’s work.
The Examiner’s interview is fairly in depth, tackling subjects such as how the duo found themselves working for Cartoons, the difference in their compositional and arranging styles, and even their approach towards genre limits and boundaries. One of the more insightful thoughts that came out of the interview applies outside of music as well:
We also think that you don’t have to make kids’ music for kids’ shows. Kids respond to sophistication much more than I think people give them credit. Kids also respond to adult-sounding, emotional content that, a lot of times, creators think they might not.
