Joss Whedon Talks About Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Age of Ultron

By now, comic book fans have already seen Evan Peters’ portrayal of Quicksilver in Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, and while his character is not a major part of the story (and probably just a tease of his and Scarlet Witch’s future appearance,) there’s no denying that his scenes were high points in the film, and now the ball is on Marvel’s court as to how they’re going to portray the silver-haired speedster. Enter Josh Whedon, who recently revealed a lot of details on the mutant siblings, including the side they’re on:

“They’re on Team Ultron,” says Whedon, “which makes things really hard for the Avengers because all of sudden they’re dealing with powers that they’re not used to. With the [first] Avengers, everybody pretty much had the power of being able to punch somebody.”

“Now we have a woman who can get inside your head and move objects, and a boy that can move faster than anything, and a robot who can self-replicate and is out of his mind. So all of sudden, it’s a darker, weirder, tougher world that they’re living in.”

“They’re gypsies in a way,” chips in Aaron Taylor-Johnson. “They’re Romani. They’re sort of like travellers… there’s a lot of clashing. He’s quick tempered. He gets agitated. He’s impatient. But he’s super protective.”

“They’re very yin-and-yang in that twin sense. In his power, he’s physical and she’s psychological. My character is very much on the frontline, but he can be quite emotional. You see this beautiful tenderness between them.”
