The Dark Knight Returns on September

The animated adaptation of Frank Miller’s landmark graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns is scheduled for release this coming September 25, 2012 via Blu Ray Combo Pack and DVD, as well as VOD and Digital Download. The set will be titled Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and will be produced by Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Animation.

The voice cast will consist of Peter Weller (RoboCop) as Bruce Wayne/Batman, David Selby (The Social Network, Dark Shadows) as Commissioner Gordon, Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Carrie/Robin, three-time DCU veteran Wade Williams (Prison Break) as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, and Michael McKean (This is Spinal Tap) as Dr. Bartholomew Wolper.

The Dark Knight Returns focuses on a future version of Gotham City, in which Bruce Wayne has already retired the cape, along with other superheroes who were also forced into retirement. As age takes its toll on his body, Bruce struggles with the urge to return as Batman when he sees his city fall prey to gangs of barbaric criminals known as the Mutants, as well as the return of his old enemies, including Harvey Dent, who has regressed to his old persona even after facial reconstruction.
