According to Variety, a live action full-length feature based on Cartoon Netowrk’s Ben 10 has been greenlit by Warner Bros, hoping that the new film will be the first in a new movie franchise. Joel Silver, producer of the 2008 live-action adaptation of Speed Racer, is helming the project, while scripting duties have been given to Albert Torres, who is fresh off the recently shelved Akira adaptation.
“I think we have to try something fresh and go at it in a way that stays true to the original material,” Silver said. “I have a 5-year-old and a 9-year-old, so it’s somewhere between them.”
“I tried to do (something similar) with Speed Racer and failed miserably,” he said. “You always learn more from the ones that don’t work than the ones that do work.”
According to Producer Steve Richards, the casting for the new Ben 10 movie will be completely different from the previous live-action incarnations, and that they want to go as big as possible with the project.
“We really see this as a large, big-budgeted tentpole movie,” Richards said.
