NYCC Interview: Man of Action Studios’ Steven T. Seagle, Duncan Rouleau and Joe Kelly

ToonBarn's Marc Morrell Interviews Man of Action Studios at New York Comic Con 2012

Man of Action Studios is the bi-coastal production company responsible for such megahits as the Ben 10 empire and Generator Rex on Cartoon Network, Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man for Disney XD, wildly successful video games, toy lines, comic books, graphic novels, stage productions, animation and a slew of upcoming feature films. They serve as front line creators, producers, writers and artists on many of their projects and are constantly creating more. A Man of Action is someone who gets things done. This perfectly describes each member of Man of Action Studios. Much like their super-powered protagonists existing across all platforms, Man of Action Studios is a creative collective that can generate and adapt ideas into the highest-rated television shows and best-selling merchandise in the US and around the world.

Who are the men behind Man of Action Studios? I am glad you asked. Man of Action Studios began in 2000 as a group of four friends from diverse backgrounds: Duncan Rouleau, Joe Casey, Joe Kelly and Steven T. Seagle, all graphic novelists with a strong appreciation for structure and storytelling, who wanted to do something bigger.

Rook and Ben from Ben 10: Omniverse

Ben 10 is already the most commercially successful original superhero franchise of the past two decades and the original series has spun off three sequel series, two live-action made-for-TV movies, a multi-national foreign game show, a live stage show, a monster truck show, and a roller coaster. Thanks to Man of Action Studios, Ben 10 is also an upcoming feature film from producer Joel Silver. According to Cartoon Network, which airs Ben 10, the projects’ merchandising has already topped $3,000,000,000 in sales.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, Co-Executive Produced by Man of Action Studios

When Marvel/Disney wanted to launch Ultimate Spider-Man, they sought out MOA to entrust with their crown jewel character. Man of Action Studios has their own imprint at Image Comics for all of their creator-owned comics and graphic novels and all continue to write and in Rouleau’s case, draw, for industry mainstays DC and Marvel as well.

Marvel's Avengers Assemble, Executive Produced by Man of Action Studios

It was announced at the Marvel Television Panel last Saturday at New York Comic Con that Avenger’s Assemble, a new Marvel Animated Series will feature the same heroic team from The Avengers movie, with the addition of Falcon. Adrian Pasdar will do the voice of Iron Man just as he did on Ultimate Spider-Man and the Iron Man anime series. Fred Tatsciore will voice the Hulk, Roger Craig Smith will be doing Captain America, Travis Willingham as Thor, Troy Baker as Hawkeye, Laura Bailey as Black Widow and Bumper Robinson as Falcon. Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle are all Executive Producers.

Would you like to meet the creators of Ben 10 and Generator Rex? We thought you might. They just happened to be at a little convention called New York Comic Con this past weekend. ToonBarn’s Marc Morrell was on hand at the Man of Action Studio Booth on the New York Comic Con Show Floor to ask them a few questions.

There’s more ToonBarn Interviews coming from Marc Morrell at New York Comic Con! Look for them over the next few days. We are bringing you many of your favorite animated shows.

See you next time… on ToonBarn.

I am a Big Fan of all types of animation. Like a lot of things, the cream always rises to the top. My favorites have included Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels, anything Pixar, Phineas and Ferb, Voltron Legendary Defender, and the DC/WB Animated Films. I have a lot of Old School favorites as well, such as Star Blazers, Voltron, Looney Toons, Tom & Jerry, and Scooby Doo.
