Disney Reveals that Merida Redesign was a One-Time Deal

As a way of trying to put the Merida redesign debacle behind them, representatives of Disney told NBCNews.com that the much-maligned redesign of the Brave protagonist was only meant to be a one-time effort for her coronation as a Princess. The studio also explained that the design has not been posted on any of the company’s official websites:

Disney fans who were waiting for a new kick-butt Disney princess that can do so much more than just wait for a Prince Charming to come and save the day were placated by Pixar last June with the release of Brave, which tells the story of a bond between a fiery little princess from the Highlands of Scotland, her need to prove herself, and her bond with her mother. No fancy balls, no prince charming, no glass slippers. There’s a witch and a curse, though. As well as an ancient, evil bear spirit-something.

Now, people who missed the movie first time around, or want to own it on home video will be glad to know that Disney/Pixar have just released Brave last November 13, 2012 as a 5 disc Ultimate collector’s Edition Blu Ray, a 3 Disc Collector’s edition Blu Ray, and as a 1 Disc DVD. Besides an HD version of the movie that you can play anytime and anywhere you want (provided that you have a Blu Ray player), the DVD set will also contain the home video debut of “La Luna”, which was the animated short that accompanied Brave in the theaters, and “The Legend of Mor’du”.

Here are some preview clips from the Brave home video collection:

Pixar releases first trailer for Brave

Pixar Releases First Trailer for ‘Brave’

If the recent still image for the Toy Story short (which will be shown along with The Muppets movie) isn’t enough to get your Pixar senses tingling, then the new trailer for Pixar’s next feature film definitely will. Scheduled for release on June 22, 2012, ‘Brave’ is Pixar’s latest CG animated feature, and its first fairy tale film. ‘Brave’ is a milestone because it is also Pixar’s first animated film that has a dark and more mature tone (at least when compared to their previous films.)

Pixar readies La Luna short at the D23 Expo for Disney's Brave in 2012

One obvious highlight of Disney’s 2011 D23 Expo, in addition to all the regular House of Mouse awesomeness, was the almost-secret screening of La Luna, the Enrico Casarosa CG animated short from Pixar. Readying itself for a big screen debut in front of next summer’s Brave, La Luna follows a long line of beautiful Pixar shorts, from Jack Jack Attack, to Burn-E, to Mike’s New Car, Hawaiian Vacation, Presto, Boundin, and so many more; each typically featured in a spot before one of Pixar’s big films. The 4 minute tale focuses on a young boy, who reveres his father and grandfather, following in their footsteps where possible. Not in a big, adventurous way, or a grand story with many cinematic plotpoints… just a simple, brief, and beautiful tale. Take a look at a sneak peek clip, then get ready for the full deal, with Brave.

Comic-Con, E3, WizardWorld and more are all part of the convention boom that has taken over in the past decade or so. Hoping to join in the take over, Disney is ready to unleash a whole new world of exclusives and teaser information at their own upcoming convention, D23 Expo. Fans will get a special look inside Disney projects, Pixar Movies, and the comic book world of Marvel, with all-star appearances from the folks behind the Muppets, The Avengers, Pixar’s Brave, and so much more. The whole adventure begins on August 19th, an we’d need a full press release to get all the details out there … so thankfully, that’s exactly what we have! Read on.

Disney and Pixar target November 27, 2013

Disney and Pixar target November 27, 2013

Hot on the release of Cars 2, the reveal of Planes, and the teaser info of Brave, Disney and Pixar are at it again, locking down November 27th, 2013 for … something! Truth is, no one knows for sure what that date is locking in. All that has been revealed thus far is that Disney and Pixar have secured that date, which falls sometime around Thanksgiving two years from now. Is this a look into Toy Story 4? A fixed release for Monsters University, currently slated for June of that year? Rumors are suggesting this is NOT a sequel to an existing franchise, so could we be looking at an entirely new Pixar and Disney film? CG? 3D? Who knows! All we can say is, as soon as our scouts get the information, we’ll keep you posted. If you had your wish, what would you like it to be?

Pixar's Brave trailer unveils Merida as a Disney Princess

Just under one year from now, Disney and Pixar will bring their latest and greatest CG epic to the big screen; Brave. Originally known as Brave and the Bow, the Bear and the Bow, and a few other choices, the upcoming film will hit theaters on June 22nd, 2012. So much of the film has been kept under wraps since it was teased way back when, and folks at Disney and Pixar have kept their lips sealed, only recently granting us a teaser sneak peek at the artwork style and synopsis. But now, finally (FINALLY!) we get to check out the animation in motion, as the House of Mouse has put out a teaser trailer! Across the Highlands of Scotland, Merida uses her archery skills as well as royal birthright (daughter to King Fergus and Queen Elinor) to join the elite Disney Princesses – complete with her own Witch, and patented magical curse!

Disney begins to tease info for Pixar’s Brave

Disney begins to tease info for Pixar's Brave

Back in 2008, Pixar announced 3 new movie projects: Cars 2, Newt, and Brave. Although Newt never had it’s moment, Pixar fans were on the edge of their seat waiting for more info on Brave; Pixar’s first fairytale and nothing their past movies. Finally, we can start discussing the details, which follow a story set in the mystical Scottish Highlands. Mérida is the unruly princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus and Queen Elinor, who inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom when she defies a sacred custom. To set things right, she is granted one wish from an eccentric Wise Woman – I guess she never saw The Little Mermaid. Best of all, a single image still from the film was released on a French Disney fan page – an awesome sneak peak of what is to come! Check it out right here
