4Kids and Yu-Gi-Oh end relationship in lawsuit
BREAKING NEWS The buzz ’round the intrawebs is that 4Kids Entertainment is no longer very chummy with the Yu-Gi-Oh! brand. For years, the company has been the home for the animated series, all the spin-offs, the movie, and all of the products and figures of the franchise, including the trading card game. However, now, the anime studio that originally created the hit in Japan claims 4Kids hasn’t given them their share. Apparently, TV Tokyo Corporation and Nihon Ad Systems allege 4Kids made secret deals with Cartoon Network, Funimation Productions, Majesco and other entities (for TV, products, and home distribution) to cheat the Japanese companies out of millions. Now, they’re looking for payback, taking the battle to the courts via a lawsuit. More immediately, they’ve terminated all licensing agreements with 4Kids, effectively pulling all relating shows from the air. What this means for the future of some of our favorite toons, we’ll just have to wait and see. Stay TOONed right here, for more updates as this develops.
