Cartoon Network and Adult Swim head to Canada
Canadian TVs are in for a treat, as Turner Broadcasting System and Teletoon Canada have recently inked a partnership deal that will bring Cartoon Network and Adult Swim to Canadian screens effective this year. The new specialty network will use the ad-supported model, and will feature Cartoon Network daily at 6AM to 9PM, followed by the Adult Swim late night programming block at 9PM.
The deal allows Teletoon to launch the Cartoon Network brand in Canada in both SD and HD across linear TV, video on demand, broadband, and mobile platforms. The French-speaking audience in Canada are not to be left behind, though, since Teletoon is also planning to launch a French-language CN programming block, and make its programming available online through mobile and video on demand.
The Teletoon/Turner Broadcasting System partnership deal includes a programming, trademark, and branding stipulation that will bring the best of CN’s exclusive never-before-seen first run content to Canadian TV, not to mention upwards of 2,000 half-hours of classic Cartoon Network and Adult Swim content.
