Asia Finally Gets Cartoon Network in Hi Def

Last January 20, Cartoon Network HD was finally launched in South East Asia, debuting first in the Philippines’ SKY Cable TV provider. It marked the first time an HD channel aimed towards kids has been included in a premium HD subscriber package in the region (with most cable providers only carrying Standard Definition content, and most homes only able to watch networks that are broadcast through analogue signal).

The existing standard definition broadcast of Cartoon Network will continue to be available in the Philippines on channel 43, so that standard subscribers will not miss out on their ‘toons. The Cartoon Network HD programming has benefits over the standard channel, as CN HD brings with it a staggering lineup that consists of The Amazing World of Gumball, Tom and Jerry, The Looney Tunes Show, and Chowder. The new High Definition channel will also premiere TV specials including the first CG-animated TV movie, Ben 10: Destroy All Aliens, in March 2012.
