The Internet’s Most Interesting Theories About Popular Cartoons

Conspiracy theories have been around even before the Internet. However, the Internet’s ability to bridge communication gaps between people regardless of physical location meant that conspiracy theories have also been given ample room to proliferate. These days you can just about find any conspiracy on any subject, even cartoons that were intended for consumption by children. Here are some of the most interesting ones we have come across:

The Rugrats Babies Are Just Figments of Angelica’s Imagination

This conspiracy theory goes that the adorable and quirky little tots that make up the cast of Rugrats are actually just figments of Angelica’s imagination, serving as coping mechanisms for the spoiled, bratty little girl. The theory posits that her cousin, Tommy Pickles, was a stillborn and that the father continues making toys for the child as a way of coping. Chuckie, on the other hand, died in a car accident with his mother, which would explain why his father is a nervous wreck. The twins Phil and Lil, on the other hand, are imagined by Angelica because the DeVille’s had an abortion and never got to know the sex of their baby.

Ed, Edd, and Eddy are Dead-y

According to this conspiracy theory, the three kids from cul-de-sac have died in different time periods and are now stuck in a purgatory of eternal childhood. Clues include the fact that they never go to school, that no adults are ever seen in the show, and that each of the kids’ tongue is in a different color, allegedly representing decaying bodies.

Dexter’s Imaginary Laboratory

It’s easy for cartoons to have premises that are outlandish, and Dexter’s Laboratory certainly fit the bill. Of course, aside from the fact that it’s fiction, the fantastic and extremely advanced technology on display in the little kid’s laboratory can also be explained by the kid’s ridiculou amounts of intelligence. But a popular conspiracy theory posits that the boy genius isn’t exactly a pint-sized mad scientist, but merely a precocious young boy who has a hyper-active imagination. His laboratory exists only in his head, which would explain why his activities are not suprising his parents and sibling, and would also explain why he is constantly mocked by Dee Dee.

Courage the Normal Dog

Courage: The Cowardly Dog is an animated comedy horror series that is notable for featuring a perpetually scared dog who lives in the middle of nowhere with its owners Muriel and Eustance, who are always oblivious to all the horrors that visit their isolated compound.

According to some Internet conspiracy theorists, Courage is not really a cowardly dog. Rather, the titular mutt is pretty average. Everything we see in the show is reality as seen through a dog’s eyes – most of the monsters and scary occurrences are just strangers and normal events that are skewed by a dog’s unique perspective. Additionally, they don’t really live in isolation. It’s just that Muriel and Eustace are too old to take Courage anywhere so the dog doesn’t know much of the world outside of their compound.
