SDCC 2013: ToonBarn Interviews Anthony Ruivivar from Beware the Batman

Anthony Ruivivar talks to ToonBarn's Marc Morrell about Beware the Batman at SDCC 2013

When Anthony Ruivivar found out he would be the new voice of Batman and Bruce Wayne for the Cartoon Network animated series, Beware the Batman, he was terrified. So many great actors had played the role before him, and he was bound and determined to not let anybody down. The first person he told, “I’m Batman!”, was his 3-year old son. We won’t tell you here what his son said, because you have to see Anthony tell you the story in the interview below. Suffice it to say, it’s a really great story.

Beware the Batman – From the Opening Credits

Anthony has filled the shoes of many characters over the years, like a lawyer on The Whole Truth, and a cop on Southland, but who does he play in his first animated role? Batman. No wonder he is terrified. You won’t find another fanbase paying as close attention to make sure “their” lead character is right, than in the Batman Franchise.

ToonBarn’s Marc Morrell talked to Anthony Ruivivar about his son’s reaction to learning he was playing the role of Batman, and how Anthony feels about the role. He also describes the connection Bruce Wayne has with his alter ego, Batman. We also find out why Batman may be the best detective ever, even compared to the likes of Sherlock Holmes.

We want to thank Anthony Ruivivar for his conversation with ToonBarn at San Diego Comic-Con. We also need to thank Cartoon Network, Warner Bros Television and Beware the Batman for the interview session at SDCC.

I am a Big Fan of all types of animation. Like a lot of things, the cream always rises to the top. My favorites have included Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels, anything Pixar, Phineas and Ferb, Voltron Legendary Defender, and the DC/WB Animated Films. I have a lot of Old School favorites as well, such as Star Blazers, Voltron, Looney Toons, Tom & Jerry, and Scooby Doo.
