SDCC 2013: ToonBarn Interviews JB Blanc from Beware the Batman

JB Blanc, getting interviewed by ToonBarn's Marc Morrell at San Diego Comic-Con for Beware the Batman

He’s the man of a million accents. He’s a very versatile actor, and an even better coach and tutor to hundreds of other actors. He spent the first 12 years of his career working in Theatre in London, honing his craft. Then, in 2001, he got the role of Luigi Vampa in The Count of Monte Cristo, playing an Italian Pirate. His career has taken off since then, branching off into hundreds of roles in animation, video games, TV, Theatre and movies, as well as the occasional commercial and documentary voice-overs.

Here’s just a small sample of where you may have seen or heard JB Blanc:

Animation: Beware the Batman, The Regular Show, Wolverine, Ironman, Gundam Unicorn, Black Panther, Ultimate Avengers
Video Games: Uncharted: Drake’s Deception, World of Warcraft, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Socom: US Navy Seals, Dante’s Inferno

Movies: The Count of Monte Cristo, Tristan + Isolde, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties
TV: Breaking Bad, Cold Case, CSI: NY, NYPD Blue, Prison Break, Raising the Bar, Nikita, The Company

After all that, JB Blanc says that being a part of the Batman franchise, the franchise to end all franchises, is very exciting indeed. JB enjoys getting into the recording studio with the other cast members of Beware the Batman, where they all record at the same time. He loves taking direction from Voice Director Andrea Romano, for whom he can’t say enough nice things. And although he wishes he could tell us everything about his character Alfred’s former life as a MI-6 Agent for British Intelligence, he has signed some documents that prohibit him from giving away the story before all those episodes have aired on Cartoon Network.

ToonBarn’s Marc Morrell was able to ask JB Blanc a few questions at San Diego Comic-Con before the Beware the Batman panel. JB tells us a little about his character Alfred, and his relationship with Bruce Wayne, as well as the reason why this is not the “Batman and Alfred Show”. He also lets us know how much fun he’s having, doing the show.

We want to thank JB Blanc for this terrific interview and even more thanks go to Cartoon Network, Warner Bros Television, and Beware the Batman for setting up interviews before the Beware the Batman panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

I am a Big Fan of all types of animation. Like a lot of things, the cream always rises to the top. My favorites have included Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels, anything Pixar, Phineas and Ferb, Voltron Legendary Defender, and the DC/WB Animated Films. I have a lot of Old School favorites as well, such as Star Blazers, Voltron, Looney Toons, Tom & Jerry, and Scooby Doo.
