The ToonOlympics competition continues today with our 3rd match of the second round. The matchup is between USA and Italy. The cartoon from USA is called Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. Ben 10: Ultimate Alien is going up against an Italian cartoon series called Huntik: Secrets & Seekers, which defeated Ireland’s Punky in the first round.

We’ve reached a Milestone in the ToonOlympics! The First Round of Competition is complete! There were 8 matches. You all did a great job voting to determine who would make it to the second round. Now, as the second round begins, you will see that some of your first round winners will be going up against some new cartoons. These new cartoons all had first round byes in the competition due to their ratings around the world. So, there are still 16 animated shows left! 8 winners of first round matches versus 8 new shows that had first round byes. The countries that didn’t advance to the second round are: India, United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, Russia, United Arab Emirates, Spain, and Germany. United Kingdom and Japan still have a chance with other entries in the contest. Here is how the brackets look going into the second round of the ToonOlympics on ToonBarn:

The Legend of Korra is going up against a Canadian cartoon series called Sidekick, which defeated India’s Chhota Bheem in the first round.

Fans who feel that a single season of The Legend of Korra is not enough will be pleased to know that Nickelodeon has just ordered another season of the highly-acclaimed animated series. The new order is not surprising considering that The Legend of Korra is one of the network’s most successful shows these past few months, averaging 3.8 million viewers during its first season. Nickelodeon’s order amounts to 26 more episodes.

The Examiner’s Mark Morton recently sat with the people behind Kung Fu Panda and Avatar: The Legend of Korra’s musical scores; Jeremy Zuckerman and Benjamin Wynn, collectively known as The Track Team. The interview is very timely, since The Legend of Korra has just premiered on Nickelodeon, and many new fans are just now getting to hear the Track Team’s work.

The Examiner’s interview is fairly in depth, tackling subjects such as how the duo found themselves working for Cartoons, the difference in their compositional and arranging styles, and even their approach towards genre limits and boundaries.
