Green Lantern wills the box office top spot

Green Lantern wills the box office top spot

One weekend in, and the Emerald Knight has already soared to the top of the box office. At just under $53 million dollars, the Green Lantern topped the weekend list, dethroning last week’s champ, Super 8, new comer Mr. Popper’s Penguins, and fellow super hero flick, X-Men: First Class. GL is the third DC Comics hero to hit the big screen in the past few years, following in the footsteps of Batman and Superman, and hoping to carve out a nice franchise of his own. To help in that conquest, DC Entertainment brought the comic book hero to animated life in Emerald Knights a few weeks back, and Cartoon Network will see a Green Lantern Animated Series launch next year. In Brightest Day, In Blackest Night! Take a look at the full box office from this past weekend

Wolverine and Iron Man Anime hits G4 in July

Wolverine and Iron Man Anime hits G4 in July

Time to pop the claws, and … pulsar the beams? That doesn’t sound quite right. But we’re assured by Marvel they have a much better handle on their comic book super heroes. Two in particularly, Wolverine and Iron Man, will be heading to G4 this summer, each in their own anime series. Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television, has been working hard at voice casting the new toons, which recently got a teaser showing at WonderCon. Adrian Pasdar will star as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, as he battles the evil Zodiac Organization. Meanwhile, Milo Ventimiglia will don the adamantium as Wolverine in the series that sees Logan claw his way through Japan’s criminal underworld. A Blade and X-Men anime series will also hit the network later this year, helping spread Disney’s icons.

Ben 10 and Rex merge for Generator Rex Ultimate Alien

Cartoon Network has some big ideas! So, let’s say you have two of the most popular action franchises of all time, what do you do? On the one hand, there’s Ben 10. He’s had an incredible string of success in the original series, the sequel series Ben 10: Alien Force, and now the third Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. On the other hand, there’s a new series from the same Man of Action creation team, Generator Rex, that has cultivated a whole new, large audience. Apparently, the CN thinks they’re both so successful, they’re going to create a new spin-off with the two concepts merged! Thus, we have the new series Generator Rex: Ultimate Alien. Set to debut April 1st of next year (April 1, 2012) the series will follow Rex’s adventure with an Omnitrix of his own. Will the alien transformation abilities clash with Rex’s own nanotech? Will Ben be a good instructor, as he guides Rex on his new quests? Will Kevin clash with Agent Six? We’ll have to wait to find out!

Inspector Gadget and Johnny Test to Viper Comics

Inspector Gadget and Johnny Test to Viper Comics

Typically, as seen with specials like Wolverine and the X-Men, it’s the other way around – comics becoming cartoons. But now, two generations worth of toons are now headed into the media of comic books; Inspector Gadget and Johnny Test are making the full transition from animation to the printed page, as Viper Comics signs the two properties to comic book deals. Inspector Gadget, DIC Entertainment’s (now Cookie Jar Entertainment’s) classic 80s toon, features a cyborg detective, whose human body stores multiple bionic gadgets — somewhat like an early Generator Rex! Johnny Test, on the other (non-bionic) hand, follows the adventures of Johnny and his brilliant twin sisters Susan and Mary. Fans can expect a graphic novel collection of each to hit store shelves in early 2011, along side a field dominated by Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, and other Marvel and DC super heroes.

Marvel releases Wolverine and the X-Men: Final Crisis Trilogy DVD

Marvel releases Wolverine and the X-Men: Final Crisis Trilogy DVD

The X-Men seem like a nice group of fellas. With Professor Xavier at the helm, Cyclops leads the team of Mutants into battle, always successfully thwarting Magneto and other villains along the way. Well, that’s typically how it plays out. In Wolverine and the X-Men: Final Crisis Trilogy, Marvel’s latest X-Men DVD, it’s a much different world. Xavier has portrayed an apocalyptic future world, that needs the X-men, with Wolverine at the lead, to save it. The Phoenix is in danger, Magneto has launched the Sentinel army, Master Mold aims to track down, and kill, every mutant on the planet … yeah, doesn’t sound so fun. But, it makes for a darn good DVD! Especially seeing the heroes fight their way through this fright fest for the side of good. Take a look at the official write up below, then head to your local video store to pick it up
