Disney Planning 2 to 3 Star Wars Films Per Year

Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, as well as the news that they’re going to continue the franchise is already big news, but now there are even more seismic rumors floating around, stating that Disney is planning to follow up Episode VII with two to three Star Wars films every year.

The rumors started from an Entertainment Weekly interview with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirming that he studio plans to turn out several movies per year, in order to explore the Star Wars universe to the full.

The reasoning behind such focus on the Star Wars universe is likely to establish a wider-reaching universe, similar to what has been done with Disney’s Marvel Comic book-based movies. The approach certainly worked for Avengers, although one has to wonder if 3 Star Wars movies per year seems like too much, especially if they’re all interconnected.
