Disney to Reboot The Rocketeer
According to an exclusive feature from The Hollywood Reporter, the House of Mouse is in the early development stages of a new The Rocketeer film, which was originally released in 1991 as an adaptation of the then-popular 1980s indie comic from Dave Stevens. The film was an homage to the serials of the 1930s and 1940s, and followed a character named Cliff Secord who is a stunt pilot that discovered a rocket pack and suit that allowed him to fight against mobsters and Nazis, while also eluding capture by the FBI.
The report said that the new The Rocketeer film will be both a sequel and a reboot, with the main protagonist being a “black female character.” Disney has hired Max Winkler and Matt Spicer to pen the script. Of note here is that the current working title of the project is “The Rocketeers.” The plural form of the title, coupled with the information that it will be a sequel and a reboot, kind of points towards the fact that Cliff Secord may still be in the film and that the franchise will not be rebooted completely from scratch.
