If you’ve ever spent (or wasted!) a few hours in your break using Google’s image search function, chances are you’re familiar with DOMO kun. You may not know who he is by name, but the likeness of Japan’s NHK TV mascot is so ubiquitous (being the subject of thousands of memes, photobombs, and spoofs) that he’s probably appeared on just about every google image search . He may be on the 7th, 8th, or even 12th page of the results, but he’s there!
NHK Japan uses Domo for several 30 second stop motion interstitial sketches shown as station identification during shows, so there’s no shortage of video material featuring the pudgy little brown mascot, but that doesn’t stop fans from making their own. Case in point, Cindy Wong’s “The Delivery” – in which DOMO becomes the lynchpin in a mashup of slasher horror, ninjas, and film noir parodies.
