Bandai Namco’s other Dragon Ball game – Xenoverse 2 – is still being actively supported, despite their other game FighterZ currently hogging all of the spotlight. In fact, people who still play it enough to have bought the Extra Pack DLC a few months ago know that there’s still content incoming. This is fairly old news, but somehow slipped past most people’s radars because everybody was so busy with Dragon Ball FighterZ launch (44,000 concurrent players at launch on Steam!), but as it turns out the upcoming DLC contains one of the most anticipated characters from Super, the Pride Troopers’ Jiren.
Now, any dragon ball fan that hasn’t been living under a rock already knows who Jiren is. He’s that strong dude from Universe 11 who is so strong that he doesn’t even break a sweat while fighting SSB Vegeta and SSB Goku at the same time. It’s safe to say that he’s got a pretty hefty fanbase, so it’s not surprising that Bamco would add him to the roster.
The other addition, on the other hand, is a bit of a head scratcher – Android 17 in his ranger outfit. Granted that Android 17’s current iteration in DB Super has its own fanbase as well, but considering that Xenoverse 2 already has the Cell-era Android 17, it seems like a waste of DLC slot. They could have easily turned the Ranger 17 character into a variant of the Cell-era android, which wouldn’t be a problem because variants can have different attacks and stats. Some fans would point to how Cell-era Future Trunks and DB Super Future Trunks are separate, but that’s missing the point that DB Super Future Trunks is not a DLC character.
Regardless of one’s feelings on Android 17 as a paid DLC character, fans won’t have to wait long before the Extra Pack 2 content hits. Bamco has dated the launch of this [possibly final] DLC pack as somewhere in February.
