DreamWorks and Hasbro Mulling Over Merger
According to a recent report by Deadline.com, there are “deeply engaged” talks underway between animation powerhouse DreamWorks Animation and toy and media outfit Hasbro over a possible merger. The report states that the merged company could be called DreamWorks-Hasbro, with both sides agreeing to keep Jeffrey Katzenberg as chairman of the new merged company.
Hasbro is no stranger to the deal, as it has been pushing for a greatly expanded presence in the entertainment field for years, most recently buying a 40 percent stake in the Discovery Family Channel (which was previously known as The Hub.)
On the DreamWorks Animation side, the merger would be a gamechanger, as they have recently suffered from several underperforming projects such as Turbo and Mr. Peabody & Sherman. The merger would inject new life into the company, in terms of finances.
