Trollhunters gets expanded universe, second season date

Director Guillero del Toro has revealed that his and DreamWorks’ Netflix animated series Trollhunters is part of a much bigger universe. Centered around a small Californian town where the weird happens, Tales of Arcadia will consist of three separate shows. The franchise takes inspiration from del Toro’s childhood, which he describes as strange.

The second of the trilogy, DreamWorks 3 Below, will debut next year. It’ll focus on two teenage alien royals and their bodyguard who crash land on Earth and have to find a way to fit in while rebuilding their spaceship. The third entry, DreamWorks Wizards, has far less known about it. All the three will share is that it’ll be the culmination of all three stories in an epic battle. Like most expanded universes, characters will appear in each series.

Additionally, Netflix has announced when viewers will get a chance at watching the second season. Trollhunters season 2 debuts on the streaming giant on December 15th. Here’s a trailer:

For centuries, a grand clash between good and evil has been waging between the trolls beneath our feet. Join Jim and friends as they battle the evil Trolls of the Darklands in Trollhunters Part 2 by master storyteller Guillermo del Toro.

Netflix and DreamWorks previously announced the guest stars, which include Mark Hamill. You can queue up the second season here.

The first season of Trollhunters became Netflix’s most-watched original children’s series.
