Futurama Podcast Episode Expands the Franchise’s Universe

Matt Groening, David X. Cohen, and the rest of Futurama’s writers have recently produced a new 42 minute audio adventure for Futurama, to be published as a double length podcast episode on Nerdist, Soundcloud, and Spotify this coming September 14. The podcast episode will tie into the mobile game Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, and will feature the original cast.

The episode will feature a reunion of the Planet Express crew, namely Fry, Bender, Leela, Professor Farnsworth, Zoidberg, Amy, and Hermes. They will also be joined by Borax Kid, Calculon, and the popular robot soap opera “All My Circuits” as they try to complete a routine mission to Junkleon 7. The crew will face a horrifying evil in the form of a life form composed of soundwaves from 21st century podcasts, dubbed “Klaxxon.”

“Last year I cornered two fine gentlemen — Matt Groening and David X. Cohen — and pitched the idea of doing a new Futurama episode as a podcast/radio play because it’s one of my favorite things AND I NEED MORE OF IT,” said Nerdist CEO Chris Hardwick. “Today I am drooling with unfiltered joy to say that a) it’s actually happening, b) I got to voice the villain (Klaxxon), and c) I’m a freaking head in a jar in Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, a game I’ve been feverishly playing since it came out. Galaxies of thanks to Matt, David and TinyCo for acquiescing to the maniacal ravings of a well-meaning fanboy.”
