Today’s free game is a modern take on the classic NES game Paperboy. If you’re one of the old fogeys who grew up playing Paperboy, you’ll be familiar with the gameplay – you’re basically the titular paperboy, whose job is to deliver papers to the houses while riding on a bike. You have to aim the papers right so that they’ll hit the door or the mailbox, instead of breaking windows or hitting people. You also have to drive carefully as there are obstacles and hazards on the road.
Newspaper Boy 2 is pretty much the same game, with slightly updated graphics and a few edgy tweaks to the mechanics. First is that your newspaper boy is a bit on the malevolent side – your goal is to destroy windows. In fact, successfully destroying the windows actually blows up the house (exploded house = more points!)
Next is the upgrade mechanics. Earning money/points is not the goal in itself, because you can use them to buy upgrades for your bike and your projectile/newspapers. It’s a pretty simple agreement between you and the game: the better your upgrades, the more havoc you can wreak.
