Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and SimEx-Iwerks, along with European theme park operator Merlin Entertainment is planning to launch a new theme park based on the Ice Age cg-animated movies. The Ice Age theme park will include the ‘Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs, The 4D Experience’ and is scheduled to launch in March 2012 at two of Merlin’s theme park resorts – namely Gardaland in Italy and Alton Towers in the UK, where the parks are slated to open for the season.
The creation of the Ice Age theme park is part of 20th Century Fox’s long-term location-based entertainment rollout for the Ice Age franchise. The Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs The 4D Experience attraction will feature 3D movie footage taken straight out of the third Ice Age movie, and will synchronize it with stunning real time effects, which will provide viewers with the most immersive Ice Age experience technology can provide. The attraction also features mascots, novelty item shops, and there will also be two interactive Ice Age-themed guest rooms at Alton Towers’ Splash Landings Hotel.
The Ice Age theme park is expected to drum up interest for the fourth film in the series, Ice Age: Continental Drift, which is scheduled for a 2012 release.
