Ice Age: Continental Drift Takes Over Russia
According to the Russian trade publication Film Business Today, the number one film at the Russian box office for 2012 was the Fox/Blue Sky CG blockbuster Ice Age: Continental Drift, which boasted over $50.1 million in ticket sales. The film was a summer release, peaking at No. 14 at the US box office and earning around $163 million locally.
Like the other 3 movies from the Ice Age franchise, Continental Drift didn’t fare well with the critics and the award winning bodies. But we doubt the executives at Fox and Blue Sky care, because the ticket sales – which amounts to $875.3 million globally – proves that the moviegoing public likes the IP.
The other top imports in Russia include DreamWorks’ Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted with $49.4 million, Disney’s The Avengers with $43.68 million and Warner Bros.’ The Hobbit with $26.58 million.
