Over the past few days, the news of Robert Downey Jr somehow confirming Iron Man 4 at Ellen Degeneres’ prodding was plastered all over the Internet. It’s not speculation or an insider leak but the actual actor who has defined the movie version of Tony Stark saying that yes, there’s an Iron Man 4. Unfortunately for fans of Downey’s Tony Stark, the actor has since gone back on his word.
In a recent appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, Downey Jr. stated that he won’t be involved in the project after all. When asked by Letterman, Downey jr. not only said that there was no script in place, but that he had no intention of donning the suit for a fourth solo movie.
“Just between us, no,” said the star, when asked whether he would return to the role. “But I’m going to do other stuff with Marvel. I’m still going to be involved with Marvel and there’s going to be plenty of other fun stuff.”
