Justice League Action has brought the Superfriends back to rejuvenate Saturday Morning cartoons to the luster they once had back in the day. This Cartoon Network series, which airs every Saturday Morning at 7:30 AM EDT, brings you 2 episodes in that half-hour time slot.

With every episode being 11 minutes long each, there is not much time to develop a sizable story, hence the name, “Action”. So, hang on to your hats, because you accelerate right out of the gates, and fly straight through to the end of every episode. With the amount of superhero and villain characters to choose from in the DC Universe, there’s no telling who’ll be featured in the next episode. Between superheroes, villains and secret identities, there’s already been about 130 characters in only roughly 30 episodes.

Oh, and here’s the best part: Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill have teamed up once again to voice the characters a great many people consider to be the best at performing, namely Batman and Joker, respectively. Mark Hamill also puts his own spin on Swamp Thing and Trickster.

ToonBarn’s Marc Morrell went to WonderCon to get interviews with several of the people involved in the making of this great DC cartoon series. Below, you will see interviews with Jason J. Lewis (Superman), Rachel Kimsey (Wonder Woman), P.J. Byrne (Firestorm), Jim Krieg (Producer), Butch Lukic (Producer), and Wes Gleason (Voice Director). One thing we can tell you is that all of these people are excited to bring this series to the fans, as there is no limit to where these episodes can go! Enjoy!

Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment bring one of the most momentous Teen Titans plotlines in comics history to animated life with the all-new, feature-length film Teen Titans: The Judas Contract.

Inspired by the 1984 DC story arc from Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract will be distributed by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on April 18, 2017.

The landmark Teen Titans story will be available on Blu-ray™ Deluxe Giftset ($39.99 SRP), Blu-ray™ Combo Pack ($24.98 SRP) and DVD ($19.98 SRP) starting April 18, 2017. The Blu-rayTM Combo Pack includes the movie in high definition on Blu-ray Disc, a DVD, and a digital version of the movie on Digital HD with UltraViolet*. The Blu-ray™ Deluxe Edition will include all components of the Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, along with an exclusive figurine of Blue Beetle in a numbered, limited edition gift set. Teen Titans: The Judas Contract will be released via Digital HD on April 4, 2017.

Led by Starfire, the Teen Titans – Beast Boy, Raven, Blue Beetle, Robin and the just-returned Nightwing – have built a cohesive team in their never-ending battle against evil; but their newest teammate, the mysterious and powerful Terra, may be altering that dynamic. Meanwhile, an ancient evil, Brother Blood, has awakened, and familiar foe Deathstroke is lurking in the shadows – both waiting to pounce. Ultimately, the Teen Titans will need to battle their enemies and their own doubts to unite and overcome the malicious forces around them in this twisting tale of intrigue, adventure and deception.

Christina Ricci (Zelda, Sleepy Hollow, The Addams Family) and the late Miguel Ferrer (NCIS: Los Angeles, RoboCop, Crossing Jordan) join the already established Teen Titans voice cast as Terra and Deathstroke, respectively. Returning Titans actors include Sean Maher (Firefly/Serenity, Batman: Bad Blood) as Nightwing, Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story) as Raven, Jake T. Austin (Wizards of Waverly Place, The Fosters) as Blue Beetle, Brandon Soo Hoo (Tropic Thunder, From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series) as Beast Boy, Kari Wahlgren (Phineas and Ferb, Legion of Superheroes) as Starfire, and Stuart Allan (Batman vs. Robin, Batman: Bad Blood) as Robin/Damian. Gregg Henry (Scandal, The Killing, Payback) voices the villainous Brother Blood. The voice cast also includes Maria Canals-Barrera (Wizards of Waverly Place) as Jaime’s mother, Meg Foster (They Live) as Mother Mayhem, Crispin Freeman (Justice League Action, Batman: Arkham games) as Speedy, Masasa Moyo (Young Justice) as Bumblebee, David Zayas (Gotham, Dexter) as Jaime’s father, Jason Spisak (Young Justice) as Kid Flash, and Kevin Smith (Clerks, Geeking Out) as … himself.

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract is directed by Sam Liu (Batman: The Killing Joke) from a screenplay by Ernie Altbacker (Justice League Dark). Sam Register is Executive Producer; James Tucker (Batman Bad Blood, Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders) is Supervising Producer; and Alan Burnett (Justice League vs. Teen Titans) is co-Producer.

Teen Titans: The Judas Contract pays homage to one of the truly legendary story arcs in DC’s Teen Titan series, one that fans have been requesting for years, so we are excited to release a film that should surpass their expectations,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Vice President, Family & Animation Marketing. “We are thrilled to deliver this complex and exhilarating story that tests the bonds between all members of the Teen Titans to both longstanding and new fans of all generations.”

Justice League Dark, the next installment in the popular, ongoing line of DC Universe Original Movies, is now available everywhere from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Blu-ray Deluxe Giftset, Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital HD. The Blu-ray Combo Pack comes with a Constantine figure, exactly as he appears in the film.

ToonBarn’s Marc Morrell was on the red carpet for the pre-screening interviews with cast and crew, including Matt Ryan (voice of Constantine), Enrico Colantoni (voice of Felix Faust), supervising producer James Tucker, director Jay Oliva and lead character designer Phil Bourassa.

After you check out the interviews, continue reading the story below to see our review of Justice League Dark.

Here is the basic synopsis for Justice League Dark:
When innocent civilians begin committing unthinkable crimes across Metropolis, Gotham City and beyond, Batman must call upon mystical counterparts to eradicate this demonic threat to the planet. Enter Justice League Dark, reluctantly led by the Hellblazer himself, John Constantine. Like Batman, Constantine is a cunning, often cynical loner who is the best at his chosen profession – but quickly realizes the sinister forces plaguing the planet will require help from other supernatural alliances. Forming a new “league” with sorceress Zatanna, otherworldly Deadman, and Jason Blood and his powerful alter ego Etrigan the Demon, this team of Dark Arts specialists must unravel the mystery of Earth’s supernatural plague and contend with the rising, powerful villainous forces behind the siege – before it’s too late for all of mankind.

Please be advised: there are some spoilers in this review, so go buy the Blu-ray, watch it, and come back here to see if your opinion matches ours.

The action starts off quick at the beginning, and so does the Rated-R tone of the film, as we see the “unthinkable crimes” committed by innocent civilians, who were tricked into thinking what they were seeing were demons. The Justice League sees a pattern happening all over the world, and determine that a paranormal threat may be in play. As Batman gets a visit from Deadman, hinting that he needs to contact John Constantine, he approaches Zatanna, to help him find Constantine. They eventually reach him at the House of Mystery, and convince Constantine to lead this new Justice League Dark team to find who’s responsible for all the deadly crimes… and stop them.

By the way, this R-rating that was given to Justice League Dark should not keep teenagers who are accustomed to gore and violence in their video games from enjoying this film. The adult language is very tame, and there are no sexual innuendos of any kind.

The action and pacing of the show are fluid, as there is not a single time during the movie that it felt slow or rushed. And each time the Justice League Dark team comes to another step towards their final battle, there are horror themes, and as Director Jay Oliva spoke about during the Q & A after the screening, elements of inspiration from Harry Potter and Full Metal Alchemist woven in as a guilty pleasure.

It’s no secret that Matt Ryan is the perfect Constantine, from his 13-episode Live-Action TV Season, to his Arrow Season 4 appearance, to this movie, and the soon-to-be-popular CW Seed animated series, which will be about a 5-6 episode series, each episode 10 minutes in length. We can’t wait to see more of Constantine!

What is a surprise is how Enrico Colantoni’s performance of Felix Faust actually changed how the character was animated, from the original plans that Producer James Tucker and Character Designer Phil Bourassa had in mind in the beginning.

Of course, the real show-stealer was the deadly crap monster that emerged from a hospital toilet, where many orderlies paid the ultimate price, and Batman had to use his extreme cunning and ability to think on the fly to slow it down, until Constantine and Zatanna could emerge, in the nick of time, to finish it off. Let the puns flow, people.

Of course, we also saw other strong characters, like Jason Blood and Etrigan the Demon, Destiny, Swamp Thing, and the House of Mystery in human form. If you’re looking for more from Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the rest of the Justice League, you won’t find much of them in this film, just mostly at the beginning and near the climax. That’s it. Batman receives the lion’s share of the attention from that squad, but it’s the Justice League Dark team that shines in this one.

We’ll give 3.5 out of 4 stars to a terrific Warner Bros/DC animated film, that is full of supernatural intrigue, horror, suspense, action and some well-placed humor, now and then. Certainly, Batman has to agree that he can’t explain everything with science after seeing all the events from this adventure in Justice League Dark.

Hmmm!

Justice-League-vs-Teen-Titans-post-3-620x348

As we said in our first battle of the interviews between Flash and Beast Boy, we thought it would be fun to pit the Justice League voice actor against their Teen Titan counterpart, so this one will pit the Director and Producer of the film (Sam Liu and James Tucker) against Blue Beetle (Jake T. Austin). The battle for best interview continues:

Justice League vs. Teen Titans welcomes the Teen Titans to the ever-expanding canon of classic DC Comics characters within the DC Universe Original Movies. When Damian’s over-aggressive tendencies almost destroy a Justice League mission, he is sent to learn teamwork by training alongside the Teen Titans. However, adjusting Damian’s attitude turns out to be the least of the Teen Titans’ troubles as Raven’s satanic, world-conquering father Trigon begins an escape from his inter-dimensional prison. To complete his return, Trigon must have Raven’s assistance – and to accomplish his goal, he spreads his demonic forces across the globe, infiltrating the minds and bodies of the Justice League to do his bidding. To save the universe and prevent a literal hell on Earth, the Teen Titans must rescue – or defeat – the Justice League, and intern Trigon for all eternity.

The voice cast for Justice League vs. Teen Titans includes several actors reprising their recent Justice League roles – Jason O’Mara (Complications, Terra Nova) as Batman, Jerry O’Connell (Crossing Jordan, Stand By Me) as Superman, Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Rent) as Wonder Woman, Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds) as Cyborg and Chris Gorham (Covert Affairs, Ugly Betty) as Flash. Sean Maher (Firefly/Serenity, Batman: Bad Blood) also returns as Nightwing, as does Stuart Allan (Batman vs. Robin) as Robin/Damian. Making their Teen Titans voiceover debuts are Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story, Wicked City) as Raven, Jake T. Austin (Wizards of Waverly Place, The Fosters) as Blue Beetle, Brandon Soo Hoo (Tropic Thunder, From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series) as Beast Boy and Kari Wahlgren (Phineas and Ferb, Legion of Superheroes) as Starfire. Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, Daredevil) takes the villainous center stage as Trigon.

As we said in our first battle of the interviews between Flash and Beast Boy, we thought it would be fun to pit the Justice League voice actor against their Teen Titan counterpart, so this one will pit Superman (Jerry O’Connell) against Starfire (Kari Wahlgren).

Since this is an animated film where these two heroic teams are forced to battle each other, we’d thought it would be fun to introduce these video interviews in a similar fashion. We’ll have more of these match-ups appearing over the next few days, but this one will pit Flash (Chris Gorham) against Beast Boy (Brandon Soo Hoo). The battle for best interview begins:

ToonBarn Head Writer Marc Morrell was on hand with his family to enjoy a Free Screening of the movie, followed by a Q & A Panel with the voice cast and crew. After the panel, fans lined up to get free posters, signed by the panelists, and children took home a special home LEGO kit, called “Clash of the Heroes”. Before the free screening, media were able to interview the cast and crew on the red carpet.

In LEGO® DC Comics Super Heroes – Justice League: Cosmic Clash, the brilliant, hyper-obsessive-compulsive, super-computer Brainiac is combing the universe for new additions to his collection of worlds when he stumbles upon a ripe planet for his taking – Earth. But Brainiac quickly discovers Earth has a “firewall” – the Justice League. When Brainiac cleverly displaces several members of the Justice League to other time periods in Earth’s history, Batman, Flash and Cyborg must build and use the Cosmic Treadmill to race across time to retrieve their comrades – while members of the Legion of Super Heroes attempt to hold off Brainiac’s assault. Only time will tell in this battle for the fate of the Earth and the Justice League!
