Disney Starts Production on The Lion Guard
Disney Television Animation has just started production on a new animated TV movie and series titled The Lion Guard, which aims to continue the story of Disney’s 1994 Oscar-winning animated feature The Lion King. The series will be targeted towards kids aged 2 to 7 and their families. The TV movie is scheduled to premiere in Fall 2015, while the series will debut in early 2016 on Disney Junior and the Disney Channel.
The Lion Guard focuses on the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, Kion, who assumes the role of leader of the Lion Guard, a group of the bravest and brightest tasked with preserving the Pride Lands. However, instead of following tradition and assembling an all-lion team, Kion calls upon friends from across the animal kingdom, including a honey badger, a cheetah, a hippo, and an intellectual egret. The series will feature appearances from familiar characters such as Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki, and Kiara.
