DreamWorks Planning Penguins of Madagascar Movie on 2015
During their recent DreamWorks Animation panel at the San Diego Comic Con, Madagascar 3 director Tom McGrath revealed that the animation studio is currently working on a Penguins of Madagascar movie, which is slated for a 2015 release. McGrth was joined in the panelby Bill Damaschke, Chief Creative Officer of DreamWorks Animation; James Baxter, supervising animator for The Croods; and Patrick Hanenberger, production designer for Rise of the Guardians. EW’s Anthony Breznican moderated the panel. Damaschke revealed that they are also planning a 3rd installment in the Kung Fu Panda series.
As for DreamWorks projects for 2013, the attendees were treated to a first look at the upcoming feature titled The Croods, which focuses on a stone age family who were forced to explore the outside world after their home is destroyed. Damaschke stated that the family will meet a fellow named Guy, voiced by Ryan Reynolds, who will be a different sort of caveman because he’s full of ideas.
The panel also provided clips from the recent Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, as well as the new trailer for the holiday feature Rise of the Guardians. Damaschke also revealed a few tidbits on the movie Me and My Shadow, which mixes CG and traditional animation, and is now slated for a March 2014 release date.
