There may be a new set of Marvel Super Hero Squad plush toys coming your way this year, as Jakks Pacific and Marvel Entertainment have recently entered into an exclusive licensing deal that will give Jakks Pacific rights to manufacture, distribute, and market a new line of plush products based on Marvel Super Hero Squad.
What’s even more interesting is that under the agreement, Jakks Pacific also gets the rights to action games based on Marvel’s classic characters, which means we may get another batch of videogames chock full of miniature Marvel Heroes. One of the steps that Jakks has done in order to take advantage of this, is to make plush toys and clip ons that can unlock special features on the Marvel Super Hero Squad online game at HeroUp.com. The toys themselves will allow kids to accumulate virtual currency, gain membership access, and participate in the online trading card game.
The Jakks Pacific Marvel Super Hero Squad line of plush toys are scheduled for a spring 2012 launch, followed by a broader distribution in mass retail channels in 2013. Jakks also plans to launch “Skill & Action” based games that encourage active, physical play based on Marvel’s characters, particularly the Avengers. The games are scheduled to launch in spring 2012.
