It’s still in internal alpha stages, and (judging by the video below) so full of bugs and glitches that it’s not going to be playable yet, but Mane6′s first freeware, nonprofit fangame My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic shows a lot of potential. The visuals alone look good enough for a commercial release.
The first official release plans to have six characters playable, consisting of Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie. 11 more DLC characters will be released eventually, until the 17 character roster is complete.
The game looks like it plays similar to the Capcom VS games during the CPS2′s heyday, and the creators themselves seem to be concerned with making it enjoyable when played competitively against a human opponent and against the CPU, considering how the video highlighted faults in the balance and the AI.
There is no announcement yet regarding the release date (except “coming soon”, which in Dev terms is almost the same as saying “when it’s done”), and there’s no prerelease builds available, but we’re waiting with bated breaths and hoping that it doesn’t get a CDO from the creators (worst case scenario, the owners/creators should just buy the final build and release it commercially, just so the work wouldn’t go to waste).
