Avatar: Legend of Korra Smashes Ratings
Nickelodeon’s much awated premiete of Avatar: The Legend of Korra, exceeded even the most ardent of fans’ expectations as it scored a whopping 4.5 million total viewers during its premiere last Saturday, April 14, at 11AM ET/PT. The rating puts Legend of Korra on top of the list of basic cable’s kids shows and animated programs for the week.
The 2D animated Avatar: Legend of Korra continues the mythology behind the series, as it follows Aang’s successor, a young female waterbender who is being tutored by Aang’s own son, Tenzin. Unlike Aang, who mastered airbending first and must learn how to bend the other elements, Korra starts the show with the ability to bend all the other elements except for Air – making her thread the opposite path to enlightenment compared to her predecessor.
Avatar: Legend of Korra posted double and triple digit increases across all kid and tween demographics during its premiere, averaging a 5.7/1.2 million K6-11 (+36%), 6.3/1.3 million T9-14 (+125%) and 5.5/1.9 million K2-11 (+17%). The Legend of Korra also ranks as the network’s most-watched animated series premiere in three years.
