Disney and ABC Television launch Disney Junior

In an effort to match Nickelodeon’s Noggin channel, Disney and ABC Television are preparing the launch of their latest expansion: Disney Junior. The new channel plans to become a mainstay of cable networks around the country by the year 2012, taking much of the Playhouse Disney channels and relating programming blocks on the Disney Channel and relocating it to Disney Junior. The network aims to air more than 200 new episodes every year of new and existing series, such as Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny, Special Agent Oso, and Imagination Movers, amongst others.
