Nickelodeon has recently announced a brand new, original one hour TV special from their iconic 90s animated franchise Rocko’s Modern Life, titled “Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling.” According to the announcement, the special is written and executive produced by original series creator Joe Murray, and that the original voice cast members will be reuniting in order to reprise their roles. The special is slated for a 2018 premiere on Nickelodeon.
The voice actors who will be returning to their roles include Carlos Alazraqui (The Fairly OddParents) as Rocko, Spunky, and Leon; Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Heffer Wolfe, Chuck, and Really Really Big Man; Mr. Lawrence (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Filburt Turtle and Maitre D’; Charlie Adler (Blaze and the Monster Machines) as Ed Bighead, Bev Bighead, Mr. Dupette, Grandpa Wolfe, and Mrs. Fathead; Linda Wallem (Nurse Jackie, executive producer) as Aunt Gretchen and Dr. Hutchinson; Jill Talley (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Nosey and Joe Murray as Ralph. Additionally, Steve Little (Adventure Time) joins the cast as Cowboy and Cosmo Segurson (Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling, director) as Pillow Salesman.
Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling will retain the original 90’s series’ hand drawn animated style and will return the characters to Earth, after being lost in outer space since 1996. Rocko will find it difficult to acclimate to the 21st century lifestyle, while Heffer and Filburt will embrace every single technological advancement, particularly with regard to social media and the endless diversity of food trucks. Rocko tries to solve his problems by clinging on to his nostalgia from the past.
