It’s been up for quite a while now, but we somehow missed it; One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3’s Steam Store page is now up and I guess that pretty much confirms the game for PC. There’s no going back now, Bamco (or Koei Tecmo, whichever one is really in charge of making things happen.) Get to porting and our wallets will be ready.
As for why it came to the PC, I guess we’ll have Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 Full Burst to thank. As buggy and unoptimized as it is right out of the gates, it proved that there’s profit to be made on the PC platform regardless of the piracy issue. We can also thank Dragonball Xenoverse – a slightly less buggy mess but such a successful one that its servers are constantly buckling under the weight of players trying to play online.
So what’s next for the PC? Saint Seiya might not be as popular with the current generation but it is more iconic and has more history – and it’s coming to Steam as well via Soldier’s Soul. And if the Free to Play Rise of Incarnates does well, then it could convince Bamco and KT to bring some of the Gundam VS games to the PC as well. It seems like 2015 onwards is such an exciting time to be both an anime/manga fan and a PC gamer.
