Disney’s 24 hour basic cable/satellite channel targeted towards kids age 2-7, Disney Junior, will launch on Friday, March 23 at midnight in the US, as per the announcement made yesterday at the TV Critics Assoc. Press Tour in Pasadena, Calif. Originally introduced as a daily programming block on the Disney Channel last February 2010, Disney Junior became so popular with kids 2-5 that Disney has seen it fit to turn it into a dedicated channel.
The Disney Channel will still carry a Disney Junior programming block, but the new 24 hr Disney Junior channel will help give parents a specific channel that they (and their kids) can tune into all throughout the day. The new channel will be made available via major cable and satellite provides Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, Bright House Networks and Verizon, among others.
The 24 hr Disney Junior channel will feature daily telecasts of popular preschool shows such as Jake and the Never Land Pirates and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. The launch will also introduce the animated series Doc McStuffins, and will feature new editions of the acclaimed short-form series A Poem Is… and a weekend movie block, Magical World of Disney Junior.
