According to a recent report by Collider.com, the most recent attempt by Hollywood to adapt Katsuhiro Otomo’s iconic anime Akira to a live action format has been halted yet again. It’s bad news for people who want to see the live action adaptation finally push through, but an incredibly good news for people who don’t trust Hollywood’s output and track record when it comes to adaptation of popular anime franchises.
The update came from director Jaume Collet-Serra, who told Collider that there has been no movement on the project. It also looks like there’s a little bit of problem from Warner Bros. (which is working together with Appian way and Mad Chance on the project), or at least Collet-Serra believes that the ball is in the studio’s court:
“No, no. There’s nothing.” Collet-Serra answered when asked about the project’s status. “it’s a Warner Bros. question.”
