After the disappointing box office flop of the live action adaptation of John Carter from Mars, director Andrew Stanton will be returning to more familiar ground by directing the sequel to Pixar’s hit CG movie Finding Nemo. The screenplay is currently being worked on by Victoria Strouse (October Road) while production duties is handled by Lindsey Collins (Wall.E – John Carter).
Finding Nemo and Wall-E were highpoints in Andrew Stanton’s career, having won two Oscars for his work on both CG features, with Finding Nemo having the honor of being the second highest grossing Pixar release and the third biggest Disney animated release of all time. 2012’s John Carter, on the other hand, failed to generate much interest from moviegoers and forced Disney to take a $200 million write-down. It is expected that Finding Nemo 2 will give Stanton a chance to bounce back. He also has the sequel to Monsters, Inc. lined up for 2013.
