Angry Birds Creator Acquires New Animation Studio
Fresh off the success of their recent Angry Birds Space cartoon, Angry Birds creator Rovio Entertainment has recently acquired Futuremark Games Studio, which is the gaming arm of the software developer Futuremark (known for their suite of benchmark software, which is being used as the de facto standard for gauging PC gaming hardware).
Rovio is planning to expand aggressively this year, with five new Angry Birds games in the works, as well as their new TV and film projects, most of which are already under development. The Futuremark acquisition will add to Rovio’s payroll, similar to what happened with the Kombo Animation Studio acquisition last 2011.
“They are an incredibly talented and experienced team, and we are thrilled to have them on board,” said Mikael Hed, Rovio Entertainment’s CEO. “Rovio’s success is founded on the excellence of our team, and Futuremark Games Studio is going to be a superb addition.”
