Angry Birds Movie to be Animated by Sony Pictures Imageworks’ Vancouver Studio

Rovio Entertainment has recently announced that their upcoming Angry Birds movie will be animated by Sony Pictures Imageworks in Vancouver. The film is being produced by John Cohen and Catherine Winder, with Mikael Hed and David Maisel acting as executive producers. Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis will be co-directors, and screenplay will be done by Jon Vitti.

Based on the hit PC casual game that has since spawned ports in various mobile, handheld, and videogame consoles, the Angry Birds movie has been slated for a July 1, 2016 release and will be distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures.

“The Angry Birds movie will allow Sony Pictures Imageworks to employ more artists in Vancouver on a single film than we’ve had on any of our previous CG features,” said Randy Lake, executive vice president and general manager, Digital Production Services. “British Columbia is rich with animation and effects talent, and we look forward to further enhancing the production staff in our Vancouver facility.”
