After her highly acclaimed appearances on NBC’s Smash and Broadway’s Follies, multitalented actress Bernadette Peters will be lending her voice to the upcoming 3D animated movie Dorothy of Oz. Peters will play Glinda the Good Witch, which means we can expect a duet with Lea Michele (of Glee), who is pegged as the voice behind Dorothy.
Dorothy of Oz is directed by Disney veteran Dan St. Pierre and penned by Roger R Baum (grandson of Frank L. Baum). The movie will follow Dorothy’s new adventure as she returns to Oz in order to help old friends the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion fight a new villain: The Wicked Jester.
Aside from Peters and Michele, Dorothy of Oz will also feature the voices of Dan Aykroyd, Kelsey Grammer, James Belushi, and Patrick Stewart. The 3D CG animated film will be produced by Summertime Entertainment, and was originally scheduled for release in theaters this summer.
