Big Hero 6 Beats Interstellar at the Box Office
Big Hero 6’s box office debut didn’t face much competition from other animated features, but that doesn’t mean it had an easy path ahead of it. A film that’s not animated, yet equally anticipated also debuted on the same schedule: Christopher Nolan’s science-fiction opus Interstellar.
Thankfully for the house of mouse, Big Hero 6 managed to win by a hair’s breadth, opening with an impressive domestic gross of $56.2 million with $10 million in grosses overseas. Interstellar is at a very close second, with $50 million domestic box office opening.
The other runner-ups include The Book Of Life, which managed to earn $2.8 million in domestic ticket sales, bringing its total cume to $45.2 million.
